What to specify
- Thick insulation. Foam-filled leaves sized to the room temperature, from chillers to freezers.
- Hygienic finishes. Smooth, cleanable finishes chosen to meet your hygiene and audit standards.
- Impact protection. Protection around the opening helps stop forklifts damaging expensive insulated leaves.
- Heated frames. Freezer frames and thresholds are kept just warm enough that ice cannot form on the seals.
- Pressure relief. Relief valves to balance pressure after the door closes or during defrost.
Typical scopes of work
- Fitting a hinged chiller door with a stainless steel finish to a walk-in cold room in a commercial kitchen.
- Adding a heated pressure relief valve to a freezer room where suction makes the door hard to open once it closes.
- Replacing an iced-up sliding freezer door with a new insulated door, heated frame and heated threshold.
Powered door rules that apply in Ayr
Ayr is in Scotland, where powered industrial doors fall under Great Britain's health and safety law. Whoever makes a door powered — including converting a manual door — usually takes on the manufacturer's duties under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008: risk assessment, technical file, conformity marking and a Declaration of Conformity. Once it is in use, the employer or occupier must keep it safe under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998.
Planning the work around your site
Electrical work is the part that most often delays a job. If a new or converted door needs a supply, we confirm the motor's requirement at quote stage so your electrician can provide an isolator in the right place before installation day.
