How we look after doors in March
- Closure test. Each shutter released as the alarm would and its descent timed and checked.
- Mechanical checks. Curtain, barrel, guides, bottom rail and seals inspected for damage and wear.
- Alarm interface. Release signal and fail-safe operation checked, with your alarm contractor where needed.
- Scheduling. Service intervals agreed with you, from annual to six-monthly on busy sites.
- Drive and back-up. Motor, brake, limits and any battery back-up tested.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Replacing a failed battery back-up unit so a fire shutter closes under control when mains power is lost.
- Producing a fire shutter schedule and condition report ahead of a fire risk assessment review.
- Drop-testing compartment fire shutters every six months, coordinated with the fire alarm contractor's scheduled test visit.
Fire shutter law in England
A fire shutter only does its job if it closes when needed. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire safety equipment maintained in efficient working order, and keeping test records is the usual way to show it. Shutters must also stay as the manufacturer tested and certified them, so repairs should use the right parts. In March, the enforcing authority is the local fire and rescue authority.
How the work is organised
Service and repair visits in March are booked around your shifts. Doors and shutters are taken out of use one at a time, so the rest of the site keeps working while each one is checked.
