In short
Fire shutters that rarely move can seize without warning. A service at premises in Shipley tests them the way a fire would: release, controlled descent, full closure, then reset and record.

What the visit covers in Shipley
- Drive and back-up. Motors, brakes, limit settings and battery units checked for reliable operation.
- Scheduling. Six-monthly or annual visits set to suit your risk assessment.
- Closure test. A full drop test on every visit, with closing speed checked against the manufacturer's range.
- Mechanical checks. Guides, laths, bottom rail and smoke seals inspected and cleaned so nothing stops a full closure.
- Written records. Clear records of what was tested, the result and any actions, ready for your fire risk assessor.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Testing service-yard fire shutters out of hours so the closure test does not block a busy delivery route.
- Carrying out a first service on fire shutters in a newly occupied unit, recording each shutter's make, label and condition.
- Drop-testing compartment fire shutters every six months, coordinated with the fire alarm contractor's scheduled test visit.
Fire shutter law in England
A fire shutter only does its job if it closes when needed. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire safety equipment maintained in efficient working order, and keeping test records is the usual way to show it. Shutters must also stay as the manufacturer tested and certified them, so repairs should use the right parts. In Shipley, the enforcing authority is the local fire and rescue authority.
Access, phasing and timing
On a first visit we record each door's make, size, control type and condition. That record makes later repairs quicker to price and helps you plan replacements before a door fails.
