What to specify
- Daily-use models. Where needed, the shutter can be motorised for daily traffic and still close on alarm.
- Alarm interface. We agree the cause-and-effect with your alarm contractor and prove the release at commissioning.
- Tested products. Every shutter comes with its maker's furnace test or assessment evidence and performance declaration.
- Warning devices. Sounders and beacons to warn people before and during descent.
- Certified install. We follow the certified installation details exactly, because the rating depends on them.
Typical scopes of work
- Fitting battery back-up, a beacon and a sounder to a new fire shutter on a service corridor.
- Fitting a 120-minute fire shutter to a conveyor opening between production and storage compartments, released by the fire alarm.
- Coordinating commissioning with the fire alarm contractor so the shutter release is proven during the same visit.
Fire shutter law in England
A fire shutter only does its job if it closes when needed. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire safety equipment maintained in efficient working order, and keeping test records is the usual way to show it. Shutters must also stay as the manufacturer tested and certified them, so repairs should use the right parts. In Twickenham, the enforcing authority is the London Fire Commissioner (London Fire Brigade).
Planning the work around your site
For busy sites in Greater London the work can be split across visits — preparation and framing first, door installation and commissioning second — so the opening is only out of action for the shortest time.

Frequently asked questions
Who maintains a fire shutter at our Twickenham premises?
The person in control of the premises: the responsible person in England and Wales, the dutyholder in Scotland, or in Northern Ireland the person with fire safety duties. Check your lease to see whether landlord or tenant arranges servicing.
Can a fire shutter in Twickenham be fitted to any wall?
No. It must be fitted to a wall of the type covered by the manufacturer's test evidence, with fire-stopping as detailed. If your wall differs, we explain what building work is needed before the shutter is ordered.
Do you service fire shutters across Greater London?
Yes. We service and drop-test fire shutters across Greater London, including most makes we did not install, and provide a written report for each shutter. Servicing visits are chargeable at a fixed price per shutter.
