Who must keep fire shutters working at a site in County Londonderry?
Under the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010, the person with fire safety duties (often called the appropriate person), normally the employer or person in control of the premises, must make sure fire shutters are maintained. Your fire risk assessment should identify each one, how it is released and how often it is tested.
Access, phasing and timing
Downtime matters on a working site, so the programme is set around your shifts. For a single door the opening is usually needed for a day; multi-door jobs are done one bay at a time so deliveries keep moving.

Your questions about fire shutters
Can you link a fire shutter to our existing alarm in County Londonderry?
Usually, yes. We work with your fire alarm contractor to agree the cause-and-effect and the interface, designed to BS 7273-4, and prove the shutter closes on the alarm signal at commissioning.
Can a fire shutter in County Londonderry be fitted to any wall?
No. It must be fitted to a wall of the type covered by the manufacturer's test evidence, with fire-stopping as detailed. If your wall differs, we explain what building work is needed before the shutter is ordered.
Who maintains a fire shutter at our County Londonderry premises?
The person in control of the premises: the responsible person in England and Wales, the dutyholder in Scotland, or in Northern Ireland the person with fire safety duties. Check your lease to see whether landlord or tenant arranges servicing.
