Options that matter on site
- Tight seals. Compressible gaskets pressed against the frame as the door closes.
- Hygienic finishes. Plastisol-coated steel, stainless steel or GRP for food and pharmaceutical use.
- Impact protection. Kick plates, buffers and bollards to keep trucks off leaves and frames.
- Inside release. An emergency release on the inside face so nobody can be shut in.
- Pressure relief. Relief valves to balance pressure after the door closes or during defrost.
What this work can involve
- Motorising a heavy manual cold store door with pull-cord activation, a safety edge on the closing leaf and photocells.
- Fitting freezer-grade PVC strip curtains behind cold store doors that stand open during loading.
- Adding a heated pressure relief valve to a freezer room where suction makes the door hard to open once it closes.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Wilmslow?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.

Frequently asked questions
Can you replace a freezer door at our Wilmslow site without losing stock?
We plan the change with you and your refrigeration engineer. Many doors can be swapped in a day, sometimes with stock moved or the plant set back temporarily, so the room returns to temperature quickly.
What safety release do cold store doors in Wilmslow need?
Every cold store door should open from inside without a key or tool, even when locked from outside. We fit a clearly marked inside release and can add an alarm button connected to a monitored panel.
How much does a cold store or freezer door cost in Wilmslow?
Our guide price for a sliding cold store or freezer door is £6,495 to £17,995 ex VAT, supplied and fitted. Size, temperature, insulation and electric operation set the final price, confirmed in writing after a free survey in Wilmslow.
