What to specify
- Thick insulation. Insulation thickness is chosen for your operating temperature, with heavier leaves for freezers.
- Hygienic finishes. Plastisol-coated steel, stainless steel or GRP for food and pharmaceutical use.
- Impact protection. Kick plates, buffers and bollards to keep trucks off leaves and frames.
- Pressure relief. We check pressure relief so a tightly sealed room does not suck the door shut.
- Inside release. An emergency release on the inside face so nobody can be shut in.
Typical scopes of work
- Motorising a heavy manual cold store door with pull-cord activation, a safety edge on the closing leaf and photocells.
- Replacing an iced-up sliding freezer door with a new insulated door, heated frame and heated threshold.
- Fitting freezer-grade PVC strip curtains behind cold store doors that stand open during loading.
Safety law for industrial doors in Wales
Industrial doors in Newport (Gwent) are covered by the same rules as the rest of Great Britain. On handover you should receive user instructions and, for a powered door, the conformity paperwork, because the installer is treated as the manufacturer when they assemble or motorise it. Afterwards, keeping the door in efficient working order is the occupier's job under the Workplace Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998, which in practice means regular servicing and a written log.
How the work is organised
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.
