What to specify

Safety devices. Safety edges, photocells and light curtains, force-tested to BS EN 12453.
Interlocks. Airlocks, door-to-leveller and fire alarm interfaces.
Manual override. Chain or crank override so doors open during power cuts.
Manual-to-electric. Hand-operated doors converted to power, with the paperwork a powered door needs.
Matched motors. Direct, centre-mounted, chain-drive or tubular motors sized to the door.

Jobs we can carry out

Adding traffic lights and warning beacons to a yard door shared by lorries and pedestrians.
Adding radar with cross-traffic suppression to a door on a busy aisle so passing trucks do not open it.
Installing an airlock interlock between two high-speed doors so only one can be open at a time.

Powered door rules that apply in Corby

Corby is in England, where powered industrial doors fall under Great Britain's health and safety law. Whoever makes a door powered — including converting a manual door — usually takes on the manufacturer's duties under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008: risk assessment, technical file, conformity marking and a Declaration of Conformity. Once it is in use, the employer or occupier must keep it safe under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998.

Questions from businesses in Corby

Can our door in Corby be automated?

If the door is in good mechanical order and a suitable motor is available, usually yes. We check balance, springs, cables, guides and the curtain or panels on survey, and recommend repair or replacement first if needed.

Do automated doors in Corby need more maintenance?

Powered doors need their motors, controls and safety devices checked as well as the mechanical parts, so at least an annual service is common practice, more often for busy doors. Servicing visits are chargeable; the survey for an automation job is free.

Which activation would suit our Corby site?

It depends on who uses the door. Buttons suit staff, remotes suit drivers, pull cords and loops suit forklifts, and radar suits mixed traffic. We look at your traffic on survey and recommend a set-up.
