Fire shutter law in England
A fire shutter only does its job if it closes when needed. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire safety equipment maintained in efficient working order, and keeping test records is the usual way to show it. Shutters must also stay as the manufacturer tested and certified them, so repairs should use the right parts. In Broadstairs, the enforcing authority is the local fire and rescue authority.
Planning the work around your site
Before work starts we send a method statement and risk assessment, confirm who on site will be our contact and agree where materials and access equipment will go. On shared industrial estates that can mean booking yard space with the landlord.

Frequently asked questions
Who is responsible for fire shutter maintenance at our Broadstairs site?
The person in control of the premises, usually the employer, owner or managing agent, under fire safety law. Leases often set out whether landlord or tenant arranges it, so check yours.
Do you test shutters in Broadstairs outside working hours?
Yes. Out-of-hours visits are available because testing closes the opening. We agree the timing and confirm any out-of-hours price in the quote.
What happens if a fire shutter in Broadstairs fails its test?
We tell you on the day, explain the cause and the risk, and quote any repair. Your fire risk assessor should know about a shutter that is out of service until it is fixed.
