What this work can involve

Drop-testing compartment fire shutters every six months, coordinated with the fire alarm contractor's scheduled test visit.

Fire shutter law in England

A fire shutter only does its job if it closes when needed. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire safety equipment maintained in efficient working order, and keeping test records is the usual way to show it. Shutters must also stay as the manufacturer tested and certified them, so repairs should use the right parts. In Rawtenstall, the enforcing authority is the local fire and rescue authority.

How the work is organised

Before work starts we send a method statement and risk assessment, confirm who on site will be our contact and agree where materials and access equipment will go. On shared industrial estates that can mean booking yard space with the landlord.
