What this work can involve

Building up a blockwork wall to the tested construction before fitting a new compartment fire shutter.
Replacing an obsolete kitchen servery fire shutter with a new shutter released by the fire alarm panel.
Fire-stopping the head and jambs of a replacement shutter exactly to the manufacturer's installation details.

Who must keep fire shutters working at a site in Kirkwall?

The dutyholder, usually the employer, owner or managing agent, has the duty under the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006. Your fire risk assessment should list each shutter, how it is released and how often it is tested, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service may ask how the shutters are maintained.

Planning the work around your site

For busy sites in the Highlands and Islands the work can be split across visits — preparation and framing first, door installation and commissioning second — so the opening is only out of action for the shortest time.

Fire shutters in Kirkwall: your questions

No. It must be fitted to a wall of the type covered by the manufacturer's test evidence, with fire-stopping as detailed. If your wall differs, we explain what building work is needed before the shutter is ordered.

How long does fire shutter installation take at a Kirkwall site?

A single shutter is typically fitted in one to two days, with commissioning and alarm testing on top. Lead times for fire-rated products are confirmed with the quote, and work is planned around your operations.

Are your fire shutters in Kirkwall certified?

The certification belongs to the shutter: we supply products carrying the manufacturer's fire test evidence and Declaration of Performance, and install them to the certified specification so they perform as tested.
