High-speed doors in Kirkwall

Postcode district: KW15
Area: Highlands and Islands
Survey: By arrangement

Options that matter on site

Spiral doors. Rigid insulated slats on a spiral for fast, secure, wind-resistant external doors.
Self-repairing curtains. After a knock, many curtains reset themselves automatically instead of waiting for an engineer.
Light curtains. Full-height safety light curtains in the frame stop the door closing on anything.
Inverter drives. Soft start and stop protect the curtain and drive at high cycle rates.
Fabric doors. Lightweight roll-up curtains that suit most internal doorways and many protected external ones.

Examples of work we can quote for

Fitting a wind-resistant high-speed fabric door to a sheltered external yard opening, with traffic lights for drivers.
Setting up radar with cross-traffic suppression so a door on a busy aisle opens only for approaching traffic.
Installing an insulated spiral door as the main external opening on a temperature-controlled distribution unit.

Safety law for industrial doors in Scotland

Industrial doors in Kirkwall are covered by the same rules as the rest of Great Britain. On handover you should receive user instructions and, for a powered door, the conformity paperwork, because the installer is treated as the manufacturer when they assemble or motorise it. Afterwards, keeping the door in efficient working order is the occupier's job under the Workplace Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998, which in practice means regular servicing and a written log.

Access, phasing and timing

For busy sites in the Highlands and Islands the work can be split across visits — preparation and framing first, door installation and commissioning second — so the opening is only out of action for the shortest time.

Your questions about high-speed doors

Can you fit a high-speed door alongside our existing door in Kirkwall?

Often, yes. A high-speed door can sit inside or outside an existing shutter or sectional door, with the conventional door closed at night. We check the space and fixings on survey.

What safety features will a high-speed door at our Kirkwall premises have?

Typically a full-height light curtain or photocells, limited closing forces, and on many fabric models a soft or breakaway bottom edge. The exact package comes from the risk assessment for your traffic and is tested before handover.

Do you repair high-speed doors across the Highlands and Islands?

Yes. We repair fabric and spiral high-speed doors across the Highlands and Islands, including curtains, bottom bars, drives, inverters and safety devices, subject to parts availability. Repair visits are chargeable and quoted up front.
