What to specify
- Tested products. Shutters supplied with the manufacturer's fire test evidence and Declaration of Performance.
- Daily-use models. Where needed, the shutter can be motorised for daily traffic and still close on alarm.
- Warning devices. Sounders and beacons to warn people before and during descent.
- Battery back-up. Batteries keep the closing sequence under control even if mains power is lost.
- Certified install. Fitted strictly to the manufacturer's specification for fixings, wall type and fire-stopping.
Jobs we can carry out
- Fitting a 120-minute fire shutter to a conveyor opening between production and storage compartments, released by the fire alarm.
- Installing a motorised fire shutter that also serves as the daily goods door between two warehouse compartments.
- Coordinating commissioning with the fire alarm contractor so the shutter release is proven during the same visit.
Fire safety duties for shutters in Birmingham
In England, fire shutters are part of the fire precautions the responsible person must keep maintained under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: in efficient working order and in good repair. Testing at suitable intervals and keeping the results is expected good practice and supports your fire risk assessment. Enforcement in Birmingham is by the local fire and rescue authority.
How the work is organised
Downtime matters on a working site, so the programme is set around your shifts. For a single door the opening is usually needed for a day; multi-door jobs are done one bay at a time so deliveries keep moving.

Frequently asked questions
Are your fire shutters in Birmingham certified?
The certification belongs to the shutter: we supply products carrying the manufacturer's fire test evidence and Declaration of Performance, and install them to the certified specification so they perform as tested.
Can a fire shutter in Birmingham be fitted to any wall?
No. It must be fitted to a wall of the type covered by the manufacturer's test evidence, with fire-stopping as detailed. If your wall differs, we explain what building work is needed before the shutter is ordered.
Can you link a fire shutter to our existing alarm in Birmingham?
Usually, yes. We work with your fire alarm contractor to agree the cause-and-effect and the interface, designed to BS 7273-4, and prove the shutter closes on the alarm signal at commissioning.
