What to specify

  • Refurbishment. Sound but tired doors can be brought back with new running gear, drives and safety devices.
  • Designed per opening. Each door engineered around the opening size, structure and site wind exposure.
  • Drives and controls. Electric drives per leaf or central, with manual or emergency operation.
  • Load path. Bottom-rolling on floor rails or top-hung from the structure, agreed with your engineer.
  • Wind resistance. Leaves, guides and fixings designed for the wind load on the closed door.

Examples of work we can quote for

  • Surveying and specifying a very wide sliding or folding door for a building that houses large plant and machinery.
  • Installing heavy-duty sectional doors with wind-resistant panels across the frontage of a bus or coach garage.
  • Refurbishing manual large-span sliding doors with new bottom wheels, top guides and an electric drive unit on each leaf.

Who is responsible for door safety at a site in the East Riding of Yorkshire?

In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.

How the work is organised

Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Hangar and large-span doors in the East Riding of Yorkshire: your questions

Do you work on hangar door projects with our engineer in the East Riding of Yorkshire?

Yes. We coordinate loads, fixings, floor rails and steelwork with your structural engineer and main contractor so the door and the building are designed together, and we agree a programme before manufacture.

Can you refurbish our existing hangar doors in the East Riding of Yorkshire?

Often, yes. If the leaves are sound, we renew wheels, guides, drives, cladding and safety devices. Where distortion or corrosion is severe, we explain why replacement may be better value.

How long would a large-span door installation take in the East Riding of Yorkshire?

After design and manufacture, installation typically takes from several days to a few weeks depending on the number of leaves and any structural work. The full programme is set out with the quote.
