Options for insulated roller shutter doors in Carlisle

Compact coil. No tracks under the roof: the door rolls up into a neat coil above the lintel.
Weather seals. Seals along the guides, head and bottom rail stop wind-driven rain and cold air getting in.
Controls. From a simple button station to loops and radar, the controls match how often the door opens.
Foam-filled laths. Each lath has two metal skins with insulating foam between them, so the curtain holds heat far better.
Electric drive. Motor inside the barrel or on its end, with a chain or handle so the door still opens without power.

What this work can involve

Adding wind locks and a heavier geared motor to a wide insulated roller door on an exposed elevation.
Installing an insulated roller door with induction loop activation on a busy internal forklift route.
Fitting a compact insulated service door to a plant room to reduce the noise reaching neighbouring offices.

Powered door rules that apply in Carlisle

Carlisle is in England, where powered industrial doors fall under Great Britain's health and safety law. Whoever makes a door powered — including converting a manual door — usually takes on the manufacturer's duties under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008: risk assessment, technical file, conformity marking and a Declaration of Conformity. Once it is in use, the employer or occupier must keep it safe under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998.

How the work is organised

If your premises are leased, check whether the landlord needs to approve the work. We can provide drawings and product data for the landlord or managing agent before the order is placed.

Insulated roller shutter doors in Carlisle: your questions

Does a powered insulated roller door in Carlisle need safety devices?

If the door closes automatically or can trap someone, yes. The risk assessment decides what is needed, typically a safety edge, photocells and closing forces tested to BS EN 12453, plus anti-fall protection on heavier curtains.

Can you replace our old roller shutter in Carlisle with an insulated one?

Yes. We recommend a complete new door rather than a new curtain on old parts, and include strip-out and disposal in the quote so the old shutter goes when the new one is fitted.

Is there enough headroom for an insulated roller door at our Carlisle unit?

The coil on an insulated curtain is larger than on a single-skin shutter, so we measure the space above the lintel on survey. Where headroom is very tight, the coil can sometimes be fitted outside the opening or a lower-profile option chosen.
