What we fit in Tyne and Wear
- Phased refurbishment. We work through the bays in turn, leaving the rest in use.
- Sectional doors. Insulated sectional doors with vision panels and electric operation.
- Interlocks. Door, leveller and restraint operate only in a safe sequence.
- Traffic lights. Clear signals for drivers and forklift operators at every stage of loading.
- Impact protection. Trailers are stopped and centred so they do not damage the wall, shelter or door.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Retrofitting traffic lights and door-leveller interlocks to a run of existing loading bays.
- Specifying vehicle restraints, traffic lights and dock lights as part of a review of how trailers leave the dock.
- Repairing damaged pit edges and fitting new telescopic levellers, shelters and bumpers at a manufacturing site.
Loading bay safety in England
Dock levellers, shelters and restraints are work equipment, so in Tyne and Wear the business running the site must keep them in efficient working order under PUWER 1998, and keep traffic routes safe under the Workplace Regulations 1992. Dock levellers are built to BS EN 1398; powered loading bay doors are covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and BS EN 12453.
Keeping your site running during the work
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Your questions about complete loading bays
How much does a complete loading bay cost in Tyne and Wear?
Complete loading bays are priced on survey, typically £14,995 to £39,995 ex VAT per bay depending on the leveller, shelter, door and safety systems. We confirm a fixed price in writing after a free survey of your Tyne and Wear site.
How long does it take to install a loading bay in Tyne and Wear?
A single bay with a prepared pit typically takes two to three days, including commissioning the interlocks and lights. New-build projects follow the main programme, and multi-bay refurbishments are phased to suit your operations.
Can a loading bay be added to our Tyne and Wear unit without a pit?
Often, yes. A loading house built out in front of the door, or an edge-of-dock leveller for light use, avoids cutting a pit in the floor. We check which option suits the building and the traffic on survey.
