What we fit in Cumbria
- Sectional doors. Insulated sectional doors with vision panels and electric operation.
- Traffic lights. Inside and outside lights show when the bay is safe to use.
- Phased refurbishment. We work through the bays in turn, leaving the rest in use.
- Dock levellers. Hydraulic levellers chosen for your vehicle bed heights and handling equipment.
- Interlocks. Door, leveller and restraint operate only in a safe sequence.
What this work can involve
- Specifying vehicle restraints, traffic lights and dock lights as part of a review of how trailers leave the dock.
- Phasing bay refurbishment at a cold store, one bay per weekend, so temperature-controlled loading carries on.
- Adding a loading house to a unit where the warehouse floor cannot be cut for a leveller pit.
Loading bay safety in England
Dock levellers, shelters and restraints are work equipment, so in Cumbria the business running the site must keep them in efficient working order under PUWER 1998, and keep traffic routes safe under the Workplace Regulations 1992. Dock levellers are built to BS EN 1398; powered loading bay doors are covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and BS EN 12453.
How the work is organised
Before work starts we send a method statement and risk assessment, confirm who on site will be our contact and agree where materials and access equipment will go. On shared industrial estates that can mean booking yard space with the landlord.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to install a loading bay in Cumbria?
A single bay with a prepared pit typically takes two to three days, including commissioning the interlocks and lights. New-build projects follow the main programme, and multi-bay refurbishments are phased to suit your operations.
Can a loading bay be added to our Cumbria unit without a pit?
Often, yes. A loading house built out in front of the door, or an edge-of-dock leveller for light use, avoids cutting a pit in the floor. We check which option suits the building and the traffic on survey.
Do you work on new-build loading bays around the North West?
Yes. We supply pit, opening and embedded steel details to your design team and groundworks contractor early, then install and commission doors, levellers, shelters and accessories to the main contractor's programme.
