What to specify
- Wind resistance. Closed doors are designed to resist the wind pressure your site can see without jamming.
- Designed per opening. Each door engineered around the opening size, structure and site wind exposure.
- Load path. We decide with your structural engineer whether the slab or the structure carries the door's weight.
- Safety systems. Large doors move a lot of mass, so warning and detection devices are built in from the start.
- Multi-leaf sliding. Classic hangar doors with leaves that slide on parallel tracks and stack clear of the opening.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Adding warning beacons, sounders and photocells to an older powered large-span door as part of a site risk assessment review.
- Surveying and specifying a very wide sliding or folding door for a building that houses large plant and machinery.
- Refurbishing manual large-span sliding doors with new bottom wheels, top guides and an electric drive unit on each leaf.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Cumbria?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Planning the work around your site
Sites in and around Cumbria vary from tight trade counters to large distribution yards. The survey records access for our vehicle and platform, overhead obstructions and floor condition so the installation day runs without surprises.

Your questions about hangar and large-span doors
How long would a large-span door installation take in Cumbria?
After design and manufacture, installation typically takes from several days to a few weeks depending on the number of leaves and any structural work. The full programme is set out with the quote.
Do you service large doors across the North West?
Yes. We service and repair hangar and large-span doors across the North West, including running gear, drives, controls and safety devices. Service and repair visits are chargeable and quoted before work starts.
Which hangar door type would suit our building in Cumbria?
It depends on headroom, side space, structure and how often the door moves. Sliding doors need side space, vertical-lift fabric doors need headroom, and large sectional doors suit big but not extreme openings. We recommend after survey.
