Options that matter on site
- Outside access. Staff can get in from outside with a key or code, but the exit always opens freely from inside.
- Louvres and vision. Ventilation louvres for plant and switch rooms, and glazed panels where people need to see through.
- Fire-rated doorsets. Where a door must hold back fire, we supply tested fire-rated doorsets and fit them exactly as specified.
- Panic hardware. Push bars to BS EN 1125 where the public or unfamiliar people may use the exit.
- Galvanised steel. Double-skin galvanised steel leaves with powder-coated finishes.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Replacing seized BS EN 179 push pads on staff-only exits in a factory or production building.
- Supplying 60-minute fire-resisting steel doorsets for the compartment walls set out in a building's fire strategy.
- Replacing a rotted timber fire exit door with a galvanised steel doorset and a BS EN 1125 panic bar.
Door rules for workplaces in England
Doors in Canterbury workplaces are covered by regulation 18 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992: a door that can be pushed open from either side must give, when closed, a clear view of the space close to both sides, which is why swing doors on traffic routes have vision panels. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, emergency exit doors must open easily and immediately in the direction of escape.
Keeping your site running during the work
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Frequently asked questions
Can you fit fire-rated steel doors in Canterbury?
Yes. We supply fire-resisting steel doorsets with the manufacturer's test evidence for the rating your fire strategy needs, and install them strictly to the manufacturer's instructions, including seals, gaps and approved hardware.
How long does it take to replace a steel door in Canterbury?
Most single steel doorsets are fitted in a day, including removal of the old door, fixing the new frame and making good. Made-to-measure doorsets have a manufacturing lead time, which we confirm with the quote.
Which fire exit hardware do we need at our Canterbury site?
If members of the public or people unfamiliar with the exit may use it, panic hardware to BS EN 1125 is normally required. Exits used only by trained staff who know the door can use emergency devices to BS EN 179. If in doubt, choose BS EN 1125.
