PVC strip curtains in Stornoway

In short

Strip curtains are the simplest way to part-close a busy opening in Stornoway (HS1). Hook-on strips make wear easy to deal with, ribbed strips cope with forklifts, and polar grades keep working in freezers.

Town: Stornoway
Postcode district: HS1
Area: Highlands and Islands
Survey: By arrangement

What to specify

Polar grade. Low-temperature PVC that stays flexible in chillers and freezers.
No power. With no electrics involved, the curtain keeps working with only cleaning and strip renewal.
Hook-on strips. Worn strips lift off and new ones hook on in seconds.
Ribbed strips. Ribs protect the clear face of each strip from scratches on busy vehicle routes.
Draught control. Strips cut the loss of heated or chilled air through busy openings.

Examples of work we can quote for

Supplying polar-grade strips for a freezer doorway where standard PVC stiffens and cracks in the cold.
Adding a swing-away rail so a strip curtain can be moved clear for long or oversized loads.
Replacing scratched, cloudy strips on a forklift route so drivers and pedestrians can see each other clearly.

Traffic route rules that apply in Stornoway

Strip curtains sit on workplace traffic routes, so in Scotland the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 apply: traffic routes must be organised so pedestrians and vehicles can move safely (regulation 17) and kept in good repair (regulation 5). That is why clear strips, good visibility and prompt replacement of scratched or missing strips matter.

Access, phasing and timing

Downtime matters on a working site, so the programme is set around your shifts. For a single door the opening is usually needed for a day; multi-door jobs are done one bay at a time so deliveries keep moving.

PVC strip curtains in Stornoway: your questions

Do strip curtains work in cold stores around the Highlands and Islands?

Yes, with polar-grade PVC that stays flexible at low temperatures. We fit strip curtains inside cold store and freezer doors across the Highlands and Islands to cut the cold air lost while doors are open.

Which strip curtain grade suits our Stornoway premises?

Standard clear PVC suits most ambient doorways. Polar grade is needed for chillers and freezers, ribbed strips for heavy forklift routes, and tinted grades for insect control or welding areas. We recommend a grade after seeing the opening.

Is a strip curtain or a high-speed door better for our Stornoway site?

A strip curtain costs far less and suits most openings. A high-speed door seals better, keeps a clear view and suits very busy or temperature-critical openings. We price both where either could work.
