What we fit in Stockton-on-Tees
- Impact protection. Kick plates, buffers and bollards to keep trucks off leaves and frames.
- Electric sliding. Powered sliding doors that open on demand and close automatically, with full safety devices.
- Heated frames. Heater cables in freezer door frames stop ice welding the seals shut.
- Pressure relief. Relief valves to balance pressure after the door closes or during defrost.
- Inside release. An emergency release on the inside face so nobody can be shut in.
What this work can involve
- Protecting new cold store door frames with steel buffers and bollards on a busy forklift route.
- Installing a high-speed freezer door in front of an existing sliding cold store door on a busy picking route.
- Fitting a hinged chiller door with a stainless steel finish to a walk-in cold room in a commercial kitchen.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Stockton-on-Tees?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Access, phasing and timing
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Questions from businesses in Stockton-on-Tees
Can our cold store door in Stockton-on-Tees be made electric?
Often, yes, if the leaf and track are sound, or with a new electric sliding door. Powered cold store doors need safety edges and photocells and a drive suited to the temperature.
Why is our cold room door in Stockton-on-Tees hard to open after it closes?
Usually negative pressure: air inside cools and contracts once the door seals. A correctly sized pressure relief valve, heated on freezers, solves this. We check for one on survey and can fit it with a new door.
Do you supply cold store doors for food businesses in County Durham?
Yes. We supply and fit cold store doors with hygienic finishes for food producers, processors, distributors and commercial kitchens across County Durham, and we talk through your hygiene, cleaning and audit requirements at the survey before recommending a finish.
