What to specify
- Electric sliding. Powered sliding doors that open on demand and close automatically, with full safety devices.
- Hygienic finishes. Plastisol-coated steel, stainless steel or GRP for food and pharmaceutical use.
- Impact protection. Kick plates, buffers and bollards to keep trucks off leaves and frames.
- Tight seals. Compressible gaskets pressed against the frame as the door closes.
- Pressure relief. Relief valves to balance pressure after the door closes or during defrost.
Typical scopes of work
- Renewing worn gaskets and the frame heater on a chiller door that no longer seals properly.
- Adding a heated pressure relief valve to a freezer room where suction makes the door hard to open once it closes.
- Protecting new cold store door frames with steel buffers and bollards on a busy forklift route.
Safety law for industrial doors in England
Industrial doors in Darwen are covered by the same rules as the rest of Great Britain. On handover you should receive user instructions and, for a powered door, the conformity paperwork, because the installer is treated as the manufacturer when they assemble or motorise it. Afterwards, keeping the door in efficient working order is the occupier's job under the Workplace Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998, which in practice means regular servicing and a written log.
How the work is organised
Before work starts we send a method statement and risk assessment, confirm who on site will be our contact and agree where materials and access equipment will go. On shared industrial estates that can mean booking yard space with the landlord.

Cold store and freezer doors in Darwen: your questions
Can you replace a freezer door at our Darwen site without losing stock?
We plan the change with you and your refrigeration engineer. Many doors can be swapped in a day, sometimes with stock moved or the plant set back temporarily, so the room returns to temperature quickly.
Why is our cold room door in Darwen hard to open after it closes?
Usually negative pressure: air inside cools and contracts once the door seals. A correctly sized pressure relief valve, heated on freezers, solves this. We check for one on survey and can fit it with a new door.
How much does a cold store or freezer door cost in Darwen?
Our guide price for a sliding cold store or freezer door is £6,495 to £17,995 ex VAT, supplied and fitted. Size, temperature, insulation and electric operation set the final price, confirmed in writing after a free survey in Darwen.
