What to specify
- Records. You receive records of the installation, commissioning and first drop test for your files.
- Certified install. We follow the certified installation details exactly, because the rating depends on them.
- Fail-safe closing. If the alarm sounds or the power goes, the shutter drops at a governed speed and closes the opening.
- Daily-use models. Motorised fire shutters that also work as everyday doors.
- Warning devices. Sounders and beacons to warn people before and during descent.
What this work can involve
- Replacing an obsolete kitchen servery fire shutter with a new shutter released by the fire alarm panel.
- Fitting a 120-minute fire shutter to a conveyor opening between production and storage compartments, released by the fire alarm.
- Coordinating commissioning with the fire alarm contractor so the shutter release is proven during the same visit.
Fire shutter law in England
A fire shutter only does its job if it closes when needed. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire safety equipment maintained in efficient working order, and keeping test records is the usual way to show it. Shutters must also stay as the manufacturer tested and certified them, so repairs should use the right parts. In Hampshire, the enforcing authority is the local fire and rescue authority.
How the work is organised
Electrical work is the part that most often delays a job. If a new or converted door needs a supply, we confirm the motor's requirement at quote stage so your electrician can provide an isolator in the right place before installation day.

Fire shutters in Hampshire: your questions
Do you service fire shutters across the South East?
Yes. We service and drop-test fire shutters across the South East, including most makes we did not install, and provide a written report for each shutter. Servicing visits are chargeable at a fixed price per shutter.
Can you link a fire shutter to our existing alarm in Hampshire?
Usually, yes. We work with your fire alarm contractor to agree the cause-and-effect and the interface, designed to BS 7273-4, and prove the shutter closes on the alarm signal at commissioning.
How long does fire shutter installation take at a Hampshire site?
A single shutter is typically fitted in one to two days, with commissioning and alarm testing on top. Lead times for fire-rated products are confirmed with the quote, and work is planned around your operations.
