What to specify
- Warning devices. Sounders and beacons to warn people before and during descent.
- Battery back-up. Back-up units maintain controlled closing during a mains failure.
- Alarm interface. We agree the cause-and-effect with your alarm contractor and prove the release at commissioning.
- Tested products. Shutters supplied with the manufacturer's fire test evidence and Declaration of Performance.
- Fail-safe closing. If the alarm sounds or the power goes, the shutter drops at a governed speed and closes the opening.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Replacing an obsolete kitchen servery fire shutter with a new shutter released by the fire alarm panel.
- Fire-stopping the head and jambs of a replacement shutter exactly to the manufacturer's installation details.
- Fitting battery back-up, a beacon and a sounder to a new fire shutter on a service corridor.
Fire shutter law in England
A fire shutter only does its job if it closes when needed. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire safety equipment maintained in efficient working order, and keeping test records is the usual way to show it. Shutters must also stay as the manufacturer tested and certified them, so repairs should use the right parts. In Heswall, the enforcing authority is the local fire and rescue authority.
Access, phasing and timing
Most installations in Heswall can be phased so part of the site keeps working. We agree access routes, exclusion zones and any temporary security with you before the team arrives, and can work early mornings, evenings or weekends where the business needs it.
