What we fit in Southport
- Records. You receive records of the installation, commissioning and first drop test for your files.
- Certified install. We follow the certified installation details exactly, because the rating depends on them.
- Fail-safe closing. If the alarm sounds or the power goes, the shutter drops at a governed speed and closes the opening.
- Daily-use models. Motorised fire shutters that also work as everyday doors.
- Alarm interface. We agree the cause-and-effect with your alarm contractor and prove the release at commissioning.
What this work can involve
- Supplying a fire shutter to a fire engineer's specification on a new-build unit, timed to the main contractor's programme.
- Fitting battery back-up, a beacon and a sounder to a new fire shutter on a service corridor.
- Building up a blockwork wall to the tested construction before fitting a new compartment fire shutter.
Fire shutter law in England
A fire shutter only does its job if it closes when needed. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must keep fire safety equipment maintained in efficient working order, and keeping test records is the usual way to show it. Shutters must also stay as the manufacturer tested and certified them, so repairs should use the right parts. In Southport, the enforcing authority is the local fire and rescue authority.
Planning the work around your site
Downtime matters on a working site, so the programme is set around your shifts. For a single door the opening is usually needed for a day; multi-door jobs are done one bay at a time so deliveries keep moving.
