What we fit in Edinburgh and the Lothians
- Load path. We decide with your structural engineer whether the slab or the structure carries the door's weight.
- Refurbishment. Sound but tired doors can be brought back with new running gear, drives and safety devices.
- Safety systems. Edge protection, photocells, warning lights, sounders and interlocks.
- Wind resistance. Leaves, guides and fixings designed for the wind load on the closed door.
- Multi-leaf sliding. Classic hangar doors with leaves that slide on parallel tracks and stack clear of the opening.
Typical scopes of work
- Refurbishing manual large-span sliding doors with new bottom wheels, top guides and an electric drive unit on each leaf.
- Adding warning beacons, sounders and photocells to an older powered large-span door as part of a site risk assessment review.
- Fitting a vertical-lift fabric door to a tall vehicle maintenance shed where adjoining buildings take up the side space.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Edinburgh and the Lothians?
In Scotland, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Access, phasing and timing
Sites in and around Edinburgh and the Lothians vary from tight trade counters to large distribution yards. The survey records access for our vehicle and platform, overhead obstructions and floor condition so the installation day runs without surprises.

Can a large door at our Edinburgh and the Lothians site be operated without power?
Most powered large doors include a manual or emergency means of operation for power failures. How it works depends on the door type and size, and we explain it at handover and in the user instructions.
