What to specify
- Wind resistance. Closed doors are designed to resist the wind pressure your site can see without jamming.
- Refurbishment. Older hangar doors renewed with new wheels, guides, drives and cladding.
- Drives and controls. Electric drives per leaf or central, with manual or emergency operation.
- Vertical-lift fabric. Tall openings with little side space can use a fabric door that lifts and folds into a compact stack.
- Multi-leaf sliding. Classic hangar doors with leaves that slide on parallel tracks and stack clear of the opening.
What this work can involve
- Adding warning beacons, sounders and photocells to an older powered large-span door as part of a site risk assessment review.
- Installing heavy-duty sectional doors with wind-resistant panels across the frontage of a bus or coach garage.
- Refurbishing manual large-span sliding doors with new bottom wheels, top guides and an electric drive unit on each leaf.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Wimbledon?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Keeping your site running during the work
Most installations in Wimbledon can be phased so part of the site keeps working. We agree access routes, exclusion zones and any temporary security with you before the team arrives, and can work early mornings, evenings or weekends where the business needs it.

Hangar and large-span doors in Wimbledon: your questions
Can you refurbish our existing hangar doors in Wimbledon?
Often, yes. If the leaves are sound, we renew wheels, guides, drives, cladding and safety devices. Where distortion or corrosion is severe, we explain why replacement may be better value.
How long would a large-span door installation take in Wimbledon?
After design and manufacture, installation typically takes from several days to a few weeks depending on the number of leaves and any structural work. The full programme is set out with the quote.
Which hangar door type would suit our building in Wimbledon?
It depends on headroom, side space, structure and how often the door moves. Sliding doors need side space, vertical-lift fabric doors need headroom, and large sectional doors suit big but not extreme openings. We recommend after survey.
