Options for high-speed doors in Stornoway

Self-repairing curtains. Many fabric doors re-feed into the guides after an impact on the next cycle.
Spiral doors. Aluminium slats that never touch as they run, giving speed, insulation and security in one door.
Vision panels. See-through panels let drivers and pedestrians spot each other before the door opens.
Breakaway bottom bars. If a truck catches the door, the bottom bar breaks away rather than bending the frame.
Smart activation. Radar, loops, pull cords or interlocks set to the traffic using the door.

Jobs we can carry out

Installing an insulated spiral door as the main external opening on a temperature-controlled distribution unit.
Cutting induction loops on both sides of a high-speed door so forklifts trigger it but pedestrians do not.
Fitting a self-repairing fabric door between production and dispatch where a conventional shutter stands open all shift.

Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Stornoway?

In Scotland, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.

Access, phasing and timing

Most installations in Stornoway can be phased so part of the site keeps working. We agree access routes, exclusion zones and any temporary security with you before the team arrives, and can work early mornings, evenings or weekends where the business needs it.

Frequently asked questions

What safety features will a high-speed door at our Stornoway premises have?

Typically a full-height light curtain or photocells, limited closing forces, and on many fabric models a soft or breakaway bottom edge. The exact package comes from the risk assessment for your traffic and is tested before handover.

Which type of high-speed door suits our Stornoway site?

Fabric doors suit most internal openings and many sheltered external ones. Spiral doors suit exposed external openings and sites that need insulation and security from the same door. We recommend a type after looking at traffic, exposure and temperature on the survey.

Do you repair high-speed doors across the Highlands and Islands?

Yes. We repair fabric and spiral high-speed doors across the Highlands and Islands, including curtains, bottom bars, drives, inverters and safety devices, subject to parts availability. Repair visits are chargeable and quoted up front.
