Options that matter on site
- Photocells. Beams across the opening that stop the door closing while broken.
- Force testing. We measure how hard the door closes and record the results at each test point.
- Records. Written results and updated risk assessment for your files.
- Light curtains. Many beams from floor to head detect people and vehicles anywhere in the opening.
- Fall protection. Spring-break, cable-break and anti-fall devices against suspension failure.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Adding anti-fall devices to heavy roller shutters identified in a workplace risk assessment review.
- Fitting spring-break and cable-break devices to older sectional doors installed without any fall protection.
- Replacing a damaged or bypassed safety edge on a yard roller shutter and re-testing its closing forces.
Safety law for industrial doors in England
Industrial doors in Reigate are covered by the same rules as the rest of Great Britain. On handover you should receive user instructions and, for a powered door, the conformity paperwork, because the installer is treated as the manufacturer when they assemble or motorise it. Afterwards, keeping the door in efficient working order is the occupier's job under the Workplace Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998, which in practice means regular servicing and a written log.
How the work is organised
Most installations in Reigate can be phased so part of the site keeps working. We agree access routes, exclusion zones and any temporary security with you before the team arrives, and can work early mornings, evenings or weekends where the business needs it.
Budgeting for door safety upgrades in Reigate
| Item | Guide price (ex VAT) |
|---|---|
| Safety upgrade (edges, photocells, light curtain) | £445 – £1,795 per door |

Guide prices for supply and installation unless stated, excluding VAT, which is added at the current rate where it applies. Your fixed price is confirmed in writing after a survey, before any work starts.
Door safety upgrades in Reigate: your questions
Can you force-test our doors in Reigate?
Yes. We measure closing forces with a calibrated tester at the points set out in BS EN 12453, record the results and recommend any adjustments or devices needed. Force testing can be part of a service visit.
Do you upgrade doors from other installers across Surrey?
Yes. We upgrade safety devices on most makes of powered door across Surrey, whoever installed them, checking that new devices are compatible with the existing control panel and replacing the panel where needed.
Our door at our Reigate site has a bypassed safety edge. What should we do?
Stop using the door under power until the safety device is working, or use it on hold-to-run only if the risk assessment allows. We can replace the edge or fit alternative detection and re-test the door.
