Options that matter on site

No headroom needed. With side-opening leaves, cranes, lights and services overhead stay clear.
Top-hung or bottom-rolling. Weight carried overhead or on a floor rail, chosen to suit the structure.
Robust build. Steel-framed leaves with steel, panel or timber cladding.
Insulated options. Insulated panel infill and edge seals for heated buildings.
Folding leaves. Where there is little wall either side, folding leaves concertina into a compact stack.

What this work can involve

Installing telescopic sliding doors where the wall space to one side is limited by an adjoining structure.
Automating a pair of heavy bi-parting sliding doors with a drive motor, safety edges and photocells.
Adding a steel support beam and top-hung track so a sliding door leaves the floor flush for forklifts.

Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Aberystwyth?

In Wales, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.

Keeping your site running during the work

Downtime matters on a working site, so the programme is set around your shifts. For a single door the opening is usually needed for a day; multi-door jobs are done one bay at a time so deliveries keep moving.
