Options that matter on site
- Emergency devices. Lever or push-pad devices to BS EN 179 for exits used by trained staff.
- Louvres and vision. Ventilation louvres for plant and switch rooms, and glazed panels where people need to see through.
- Outside access. Staff can get in from outside with a key or code, but the exit always opens freely from inside.
- Complete doorsets. Frame, leaf, hinges and hardware supplied as one set.
- Galvanised steel. Leaves made from two zinc-coated steel skins, finished in a hard-wearing powder coat.
What this work can involve
- Fitting hinge bolts and a multi-point lock to a steel back door to resist levering and forced entry.
- Installing a steel staff entrance door with an overhead closer and keypad access beside a loading bay.
- Replacing a rotted timber fire exit door with a galvanised steel doorset and a BS EN 1125 panic bar.
Door rules for workplaces in England
Doors in Lancaster workplaces are covered by regulation 18 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992: a door that can be pushed open from either side must give, when closed, a clear view of the space close to both sides, which is why swing doors on traffic routes have vision panels. Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, emergency exit doors must open easily and immediately in the direction of escape.
How the work is organised
Most installations in Lancaster can be phased so part of the site keeps working. We agree access routes, exclusion zones and any temporary security with you before the team arrives, and can work early mornings, evenings or weekends where the business needs it.

Your questions about steel personnel and fire exit doors

Yes. We repair and replace panic bars, emergency devices, closers, hinges and locks on steel doors across Lancashire. Repair visits are chargeable, and on fire-rated doors we only fit hardware covered by the door's test evidence.
Can you fit fire-rated steel doors in Lancaster?
Yes. We supply fire-resisting steel doorsets with the manufacturer's test evidence for the rating your fire strategy needs, and install them strictly to the manufacturer's instructions, including seals, gaps and approved hardware.
Which fire exit hardware do we need at our Lancaster site?
If members of the public or people unfamiliar with the exit may use it, panic hardware to BS EN 1125 is normally required. Exits used only by trained staff who know the door can use emergency devices to BS EN 179. If in doubt, choose BS EN 1125.
