In short
Every protection job in the Highlands and Islands starts with a free survey of how vehicles approach each door and where the damage is happening, followed by a written fixed price before we start.

What to specify
- Dock bumpers. Bumpers that stop trailers at the right distance from the building.
- Polymer bollards. Bollards that flex on impact, sparing the floor, the vehicle and themselves.
- Guide-rail guards. Protect the bottom of guides and tracks, where forks and pallets strike most often.
- Suitable fixings. Base-plated or set in foundations, chosen for your slab.
- Steel bollards. Rigid steel posts that stop vehicles firmly in front of guides and frames.
Typical scopes of work
- Setting concrete-filled steel bollards in excavated foundations to protect a yard roller shutter from HGV impact.
- Installing wheel guides and corner bollards on a run of loading bays to protect the shelter frames.
- Replacing worn-through dock bumpers so reversing trailers stop short of the wall and the leveller lip.
Loading bay safety in Scotland
Dock levellers, shelters and restraints are work equipment, so in the Highlands and Islands the business running the site must keep them in efficient working order under PUWER 1998, and keep traffic routes safe under the Workplace Regulations 1992. Dock levellers are built to BS EN 1398; powered loading bay doors are covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and BS EN 12453.
Keeping your site running during the work
Most installations in the Highlands and Islands can be phased so part of the site keeps working. We agree access routes, exclusion zones and any temporary security with you before the team arrives, and can work early mornings, evenings or weekends where the business needs it.

Questions from businesses in the Highlands and Islands
Can bollards at our the Highlands and Islands site be replaced after a strike?
Yes. Damaged bollards and guards can usually be replaced individually. We check the fixings and the slab around them first, because a bent bollard often loosens its anchors or cracks the concrete at its base.
Will fitting bollards damage the floor at our the Highlands and Islands site?
We check slab thickness and look for buried services before drilling. Polymer bollards and proper foundations reduce the risk of slab cracking on heavy impacts, and we recommend the right fixing for your floor.
Do you replace dock bumpers across Scotland?
Yes. We replace worn dock bumpers and fit wheel guides and corner bollards at loading bays across Scotland, often during a leveller service or bay refurbishment to save a separate visit.
