Options for door automation and controls in the Highlands and Islands
- Safety devices. Every automated door gets the detection its risk assessment needs, tested before use.
- Matched motors. The motor type and size are chosen for the door's weight, space and cycle count.
- Traffic lights. Red and green lights and warning beacons for drivers.
- Inverter drives. Soft start and stop with faster opening for high-cycle doors.
- Interlocks. Airlocks, door-to-leveller and fire alarm interfaces.
Typical scopes of work
- Fitting induction loops and an inverter control panel so forklifts can open a busy internal door without stopping.
- Linking loading bay doors to dock leveller controls so levellers deploy only when the doors are fully open.
- Adding traffic lights and warning beacons to a yard door shared by lorries and pedestrians.
Safety law for industrial doors in Scotland
Industrial doors in the Highlands and Islands are covered by the same rules as the rest of Great Britain. On handover you should receive user instructions and, for a powered door, the conformity paperwork, because the installer is treated as the manufacturer when they assemble or motorise it. Afterwards, keeping the door in efficient working order is the occupier's job under the Workplace Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998, which in practice means regular servicing and a written log.
Access, phasing and timing
If your premises are leased, check whether the landlord needs to approve the work. We can provide drawings and product data for the landlord or managing agent before the order is placed.

Door automation and controls in the Highlands and Islands: your questions
Can you add interlocks or traffic lights to doors around Scotland?
Yes. We fit airlock interlocks, door-to-leveller interlocks, traffic lights and warning beacons to new and existing doors across Scotland, subject to compatibility with the control panels already fitted, and replace panels where they cannot accept the extra inputs.
Do automated doors in the Highlands and Islands need more maintenance?
Powered doors need their motors, controls and safety devices checked as well as the mechanical parts, so at least an annual service is common practice, more often for busy doors. Servicing visits are chargeable; the survey for an automation job is free.
Can our door in the Highlands and Islands be automated?
If the door is in good mechanical order and a suitable motor is available, usually yes. We check balance, springs, cables, guides and the curtain or panels on survey, and recommend repair or replacement first if needed.
