In short
Busy door at your Lerwick (ZE1) site? Inverter control, induction loops or radar can open it as traffic arrives and close it straight after, with photocells and safety edges watching the opening.

What to specify
- Manual override. Chain or crank override so doors open during power cuts.
- Activation options. Choose how the door is opened, from staff buttons to automatic vehicle detection.
- Matched motors. Direct, centre-mounted, chain-drive or tubular motors sized to the door.
- Interlocks. Doors linked to each other, to levellers or to the alarm so they work in the right sequence.
- Traffic lights. Signals show drivers when the door is fully open and warn when it moves.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Replacing an obsolete control panel with a modern unit, then re-testing the safety devices and closing forces.
- Adding radar with cross-traffic suppression to a door on a busy aisle so passing trucks do not open it.
- Fitting induction loops and an inverter control panel so forklifts can open a busy internal door without stopping.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Lerwick?
In Scotland, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Planning the work around your site
Electrical work is the part that most often delays a job. If a new or converted door needs a supply, we confirm the motor's requirement at quote stage so your electrician can provide an isolator in the right place before installation day.

Door automation and controls in Lerwick: your questions
How much does it cost to make a door electric in Lerwick?
Our guide price for a manual-to-electric conversion is £1,195 to £3,195 ex VAT, including motor, control panel, basic controls and commissioning. Extra controls and safety devices are priced separately, and your fixed price in Lerwick follows a free survey.
How long does a door automation job take in Lerwick?
A straightforward conversion is usually completed and commissioned in a day. Loops, interlocks and traffic lights add time, and we plan the work so the door is out of use for as little time as possible.
Which activation would suit our Lerwick site?
It depends on who uses the door. Buttons suit staff, remotes suit drivers, pull cords and loops suit forklifts, and radar suits mixed traffic. We look at your traffic on survey and recommend a set-up.
