Dock shelters and seals in Greater Manchester

At a glance

Each dock shelter for a site in Greater Manchester is matched to the vehicles that actually call, from small vans to double-deck trailers, so the curtains seal properly without being torn by taller vehicles.

Area: Greater Manchester
Nation: England
Main town: Manchester
Survey: Free for new installations

What to specify

Retractable frames. If a trailer reverses too far, the frame gives way and springs back instead of bending.
Replacement curtains. Worn or torn curtains renewed on the existing frame.
Foam seals. Compressible pads for a tight seal where vehicles are a uniform size.
Sized to your fleet. Curtain sizes matched to vehicle widths, heights and dock height.
Guidance aids. Guide stripes, wheel guides and lights help drivers park centrally.

Examples of work we can quote for

Fitting foam dock seals at a bay used only by a dedicated fleet of identical trailers.
Installing inflatable dock shelters at a chilled goods-in to help hold temperature while trailers are unloaded.
Replacing torn side and top curtains on existing retractable shelter frames instead of buying new shelters.

Loading bay safety in England

Dock levellers, shelters and restraints are work equipment, so in Greater Manchester the business running the site must keep them in efficient working order under PUWER 1998, and keep traffic routes safe under the Workplace Regulations 1992. Dock levellers are built to BS EN 1398; powered loading bay doors are covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and BS EN 12453.

Keeping your site running during the work

If your premises are leased, check whether the landlord needs to approve the work. We can provide drawings and product data for the landlord or managing agent before the order is placed.
