What we fit in Greater Manchester
- Force testing. Closing forces measured against BS EN 12453 limits and recorded.
- Records. Written results and updated risk assessment for your files.
- Photocells. Beams across the opening that stop the door closing while broken.
- Panel upgrades. Where the old panel cannot monitor devices, we replace it with one that can.
- Safety edges. Edges on the closing rail detect contact and send the door back up.
Jobs we can carry out
- Adding anti-fall devices to heavy roller shutters identified in a workplace risk assessment review.
- Fitting spring-break and cable-break devices to older sectional doors installed without any fall protection.
- Replacing a damaged or bypassed safety edge on a yard roller shutter and re-testing its closing forces.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Greater Manchester?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Keeping your site running during the work
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Frequently asked questions
Do our powered doors in Greater Manchester need safety upgrades?
It depends on how they are controlled and used. Doors that close automatically or on a single press typically need edges and photocells or light curtains. A survey and force test shows whether your doors meet current expectations.
How long does a safety upgrade take in Greater Manchester?
Most upgrades take a few hours per door, including re-testing. If a new control panel is needed, it may take longer. We plan work to keep doors out of use for as short a time as possible.
Do you upgrade doors from other installers across the North West?
Yes. We upgrade safety devices on most makes of powered door across the North West, whoever installed them, checking that new devices are compatible with the existing control panel and replacing the panel where needed.
