- Safety edges. Pressure-sensitive or optical edges that stop and reverse the door on contact.
- Fall protection. Spring-break, cable-break and anti-fall devices against suspension failure.
- Light curtains. Many beams from floor to head detect people and vehicles anywhere in the opening.
- Force testing. Closing forces measured against BS EN 12453 limits and recorded.
Typical scopes of work
- Adding anti-fall devices to heavy roller shutters identified in a workplace risk assessment review.
- Upgrading an old relay control panel so monitored safety edges and photocells can be connected to it.
- Force-testing a run of loading bay doors and adjusting closing speeds where results exceed the limits.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Middleton?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
How the work is organised
If your premises are leased, check whether the landlord needs to approve the work. We can provide drawings and product data for the landlord or managing agent before the order is placed.

Your questions about door safety upgrades
Our door at our Middleton site has a bypassed safety edge. What should we do?
Stop using the door under power until the safety device is working, or use it on hold-to-run only if the risk assessment allows. We can replace the edge or fit alternative detection and re-test the door.
Do you upgrade doors from other installers across Greater Manchester?
Yes. We upgrade safety devices on most makes of powered door across Greater Manchester, whoever installed them, checking that new devices are compatible with the existing control panel and replacing the panel where needed.
Can you force-test our doors in Middleton?
Yes. We measure closing forces with a calibrated tester at the points set out in BS EN 12453, record the results and recommend any adjustments or devices needed. Force testing can be part of a service visit.
