What to specify
- Inflatable seals. Air bags inflate around the parked trailer for a tight seal.
- Foam seals. Foam pads that the trailer squeezes into, ideal where every vehicle is much the same.
- Replacement curtains. Worn or torn curtains renewed on the existing frame.
- Sized to your fleet. Curtain sizes matched to vehicle widths, heights and dock height.
- Weather protection. Goods and staff stay out of the weather while the trailer is being worked.
Typical scopes of work
- Installing inflatable dock shelters at a chilled goods-in to help hold temperature while trailers are unloaded.
- Fitting foam dock seals at a bay used only by a dedicated fleet of identical trailers.
- Specifying deeper top curtains for bays that receive double-deck trailers alongside standard trailers.
Loading bay safety in England
Dock levellers, shelters and restraints are work equipment, so in Surrey the business running the site must keep them in efficient working order under PUWER 1998, and keep traffic routes safe under the Workplace Regulations 1992. Dock levellers are built to BS EN 1398; powered loading bay doors are covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and BS EN 12453.
How the work is organised
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Your questions about dock shelters and seals
Do you fit dock shelters for cold stores around the South East?
Yes. We fit inflatable and retractable shelters at cold stores and chilled sites across the South East, often alongside insulated doors and levellers, to help hold temperature and limit condensation at the dock while trailers are worked.
Can a dock shelter in Surrey be fitted with our existing leveller?
Usually, yes. The shelter fits around the dock door and works with most existing levellers, provided the bumpers stop the trailer at the right distance from the wall. We check the bumpers and leveller lip on survey.
How much does a dock shelter cost in Surrey?
Our guide prices are £2,195 to £5,495 ex VAT for a retractable dock shelter and £6,495 to £11,995 for an inflatable one, supplied and fitted. Once we have surveyed your bays in Surrey, at no charge, the fixed price follows in writing.
