What we fit in March
- Safety systems. Large doors move a lot of mass, so warning and detection devices are built in from the start.
- Wind resistance. Closed doors are designed to resist the wind pressure your site can see without jamming.
- Multi-leaf sliding. Leaves stacking to one or both sides, or into door pockets, with no headroom needed.
- Drives and controls. Electric drives per leaf or central, with manual or emergency operation.
- Load path. We decide with your structural engineer whether the slab or the structure carries the door's weight.
What this work can involve
- Adding warning beacons, sounders and photocells to an older powered large-span door as part of a site risk assessment review.
- Designing multi-leaf sliding doors, with a tail-fin cut-out where needed, for a hangar or large-span maintenance building.
- Recladding the leaves of a large sliding door with a corrosion-resistant finish suited to an exposed site.
Powered door rules that apply in March
March is in England, where powered industrial doors fall under Great Britain's health and safety law. Whoever makes a door powered — including converting a manual door — usually takes on the manufacturer's duties under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008: risk assessment, technical file, conformity marking and a Declaration of Conformity. Once it is in use, the employer or occupier must keep it safe under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998.
Access, phasing and timing
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Questions from businesses in March
Which hangar door type would suit our building in March?
It depends on headroom, side space, structure and how often the door moves. Sliding doors need side space, vertical-lift fabric doors need headroom, and large sectional doors suit big but not extreme openings. We recommend after survey.
Do you work on hangar door projects with our engineer in March?
Yes. We coordinate loads, fixings, floor rails and steelwork with your structural engineer and main contractor so the door and the building are designed together, and we agree a programme before manufacture.
Can a large door at our March site be operated without power?
Most powered large doors include a manual or emergency means of operation for power failures. How it works depends on the door type and size, and we explain it at handover and in the user instructions.
