What we fit in Hitchin

Manual or electric. Hand-operated for occasional use, electric for anything opened through the working day.
Compact coil. Nothing runs back under the roof: the shutter coils up neatly above the lintel.
Mounting options. We mount the shutter wherever it fits most easily, including outside with a hood over the coil.
Steel curtains. Galvanised steel laths in gauges to suit the width and the level of abuse expected.
Security. Bottom-rail locks and shoot bolts, with LPS 1175 rated products available.

Jobs we can carry out

Converting hand-chained shutters on a storage unit to electric operation with key-switch controls and safety edges.
Face-fixing a roller shutter with a steel hood where internal racking leaves no room behind the opening.
Replacing a vehicle-damaged shutter in a trade yard with a heavier-gauge curtain and guide-rail protection.

Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Hitchin?

In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.

How the work is organised

Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.
