Options that matter on site

Manual or electric. Hand-operated for occasional use, electric for anything opened through the working day.
Manual override. If the power fails, the shutter can still be wound open by hand.
Steel curtains. Galvanised steel laths in gauges to suit the width and the level of abuse expected.
Safety devices. Motorised shutters get the safety functions their risk assessment needs before handover.
Colour finishes. Leave it galvanised or choose a colour that matches the building.

What this work can involve

Installing perforated shutters across a covered loading area so the space stays ventilated and visible when locked.
Replacing a vehicle-damaged shutter in a trade yard with a heavier-gauge curtain and guide-rail protection.
Replacing a run of rusted shutters on a block of trade units, finished in one matching RAL colour.

Powered door rules that apply in Walton-on-Thames

Walton-on-Thames is in England, where powered industrial doors fall under Great Britain's health and safety law. Whoever makes a door powered — including converting a manual door — usually takes on the manufacturer's duties under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008: risk assessment, technical file, conformity marking and a Declaration of Conformity. Once it is in use, the employer or occupier must keep it safe under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998.

Keeping your site running during the work

Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.
