What to specify
- Safety edges. Edges on the closing rail detect contact and send the door back up.
- Photocells. Beams across the opening that stop the door closing while broken.
- Fall protection. If a spring, cable or drive fails, the door is caught before it falls.
- Light curtains. Many beams from floor to head detect people and vehicles anywhere in the opening.
- Records. You receive a record of the devices fitted and the tests carried out.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Adding warning beacons and photocells to a door that is being converted to automatic closing on a timer.
- Carrying out safety upgrades on the powered doors of a newly leased unit before a tenant moves in.
- Force-testing a run of loading bay doors and adjusting closing speeds where results exceed the limits.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in High Wycombe?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Access, phasing and timing
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Door safety upgrades in High Wycombe: your questions
Our door at our High Wycombe site has a bypassed safety edge. What should we do?
Stop using the door under power until the safety device is working, or use it on hold-to-run only if the risk assessment allows. We can replace the edge or fit alternative detection and re-test the door.
How much does a door safety upgrade cost in High Wycombe?
Our guide price is £445 to £1,795 ex VAT per door for safety edges, photocells or a light curtain, depending on door size and devices. A new control panel or fall protection adds to it. We confirm the fixed price after a survey and force test in High Wycombe.
Do our powered doors in High Wycombe need safety upgrades?
It depends on how they are controlled and used. Doors that close automatically or on a single press typically need edges and photocells or light curtains. A survey and force test shows whether your doors meet current expectations.
