In short
Every safety upgrade in Northamptonshire starts with a free survey and force test of the door as it stands, followed by a written fixed price for the devices we recommend before any work starts.

What to specify
- Photocells. If something breaks the beam, the door will not close.
- Light curtains. Many beams from floor to head detect people and vehicles anywhere in the opening.
- Force testing. We measure how hard the door closes and record the results at each test point.
- Fall protection. Spring-break, cable-break and anti-fall devices against suspension failure.
- Warning devices. Lights and sounders make sure people know when a door is about to move.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Adding anti-fall devices to heavy roller shutters identified in a workplace risk assessment review.
- Force-testing a run of loading bay doors and adjusting closing speeds where results exceed the limits.
- Fitting spring-break and cable-break devices to older sectional doors installed without any fall protection.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Northamptonshire?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Access, phasing and timing
Electrical work is the part that most often delays a job. If a new or converted door needs a supply, we confirm the motor's requirement at quote stage so your electrician can provide an isolator in the right place before installation day.

Frequently asked questions
Do our powered doors in Northamptonshire need safety upgrades?
It depends on how they are controlled and used. Doors that close automatically or on a single press typically need edges and photocells or light curtains. A survey and force test shows whether your doors meet current expectations.
How long does a safety upgrade take in Northamptonshire?
Most upgrades take a few hours per door, including re-testing. If a new control panel is needed, it may take longer. We plan work to keep doors out of use for as short a time as possible.
How much does a door safety upgrade cost in Northamptonshire?
Our guide price is £445 to £1,795 ex VAT per door for safety edges, photocells or a light curtain, depending on door size and devices. A new control panel or fall protection adds to it. We confirm the fixed price after a survey and force test in Northamptonshire.
