What to specify

Folding leaves. Bi-folding leaves stack neatly where side wall space is limited.

Robust build. Steel-framed leaves with steel, panel or timber cladding.
Top-hung or bottom-rolling. Weight carried overhead or on a floor rail, chosen to suit the structure.
Wicket doors. Pass doors built into a leaf so staff need not open the whole door.

Typical scopes of work

Automating a pair of heavy bi-parting sliding doors with a drive motor, safety edges and photocells.
Renewing seized trolleys and a distorted overhead track on large sliding doors to a vehicle shed.
Installing telescopic sliding doors where the wall space to one side is limited by an adjoining structure.

Powered door rules that apply in Hereford

Hereford is in England, where powered industrial doors fall under Great Britain's health and safety law. Whoever makes a door powered — including converting a manual door — usually takes on the manufacturer's duties under the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008: risk assessment, technical file, conformity marking and a Declaration of Conformity. Once it is in use, the employer or occupier must keep it safe under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998.

How the work is organised

Downtime matters on a working site, so the programme is set around your shifts. For a single door the opening is usually needed for a day; multi-door jobs are done one bay at a time so deliveries keep moving.
