What we fit in Kirkwall

Ribbed strips. Ribs protect the clear face of each strip from scratches on busy vehicle routes.
Hook-on strips. Replace a single damaged strip without taking the whole curtain down.
No power. With no electrics involved, the curtain keeps working with only cleaning and strip renewal.
Sliding rails. Where big loads come through, the curtain can slide or swing out of the way.
Polar grade. Low-temperature PVC that stays flexible in chillers and freezers.

Typical scopes of work

Fitting ribbed PVC strip curtains inside loading bay doors so the doors can stay open between deliveries.
Supplying replacement strips cut to length for existing hook-on rails across several doorways in one visit.
Hanging a polar-grade strip curtain behind a cold store door to reduce the cold air lost during loading.

Traffic route rules that apply in Kirkwall

Strip curtains sit on workplace traffic routes, so in Scotland the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 apply: traffic routes must be organised so pedestrians and vehicles can move safely (regulation 17) and kept in good repair (regulation 5). That is why clear strips, good visibility and prompt replacement of scratched or missing strips matter.

How the work is organised

If your premises are leased, check whether the landlord needs to approve the work. We can provide drawings and product data for the landlord or managing agent before the order is placed.

Questions from businesses in Kirkwall

How often should strip curtains in Kirkwall be replaced?

It depends on traffic. Pedestrian doorways can go years between changes; busy forklift routes need new strips sooner. Replace any strip that is torn, cloudy or badly scratched so visibility stays good.

How quickly can strip curtains be fitted in Kirkwall?

Once strips are cut to length, fitting usually takes an hour or two per doorway, so several openings can often be completed in one visit with very little disruption to your operations.

Do strip curtains work in cold stores around the Highlands and Islands?

Yes, with polar-grade PVC that stays flexible at low temperatures. We fit strip curtains inside cold store and freezer doors across the Highlands and Islands to cut the cold air lost while doors are open.
