In short
Older door control panels may not accept modern monitored safety devices. At premises in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, we can replace them where needed, adding inverter control and better fault diagnostics in the same visit.

Options for door safety upgrades in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire
- Panel upgrades. Where the old panel cannot monitor devices, we replace it with one that can.
- Photocells. If something breaks the beam, the door will not close.
- Force testing. Closing forces measured against BS EN 12453 limits and recorded.
- Fall protection. Spring-break, cable-break and anti-fall devices against suspension failure.
- Warning devices. Lights and sounders make sure people know when a door is about to move.
Typical scopes of work
- Fitting spring-break and cable-break devices to older sectional doors installed without any fall protection.
- Upgrading an old relay control panel so monitored safety edges and photocells can be connected to it.
- Force-testing a run of loading bay doors and adjusting closing speeds where results exceed the limits.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire?
In Scotland, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Keeping your site running during the work
Where a door is being replaced, the opening has to be made secure at the end of each day. We plan strip-out, any new framing and the new door so the gap is never left open overnight unless you have agreed temporary measures.

Questions from businesses in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire
Do our powered doors in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire need safety upgrades?
It depends on how they are controlled and used. Doors that close automatically or on a single press typically need edges and photocells or light curtains. A survey and force test shows whether your doors meet current expectations.
Our door at our Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire site has a bypassed safety edge. What should we do?
Stop using the door under power until the safety device is working, or use it on hold-to-run only if the risk assessment allows. We can replace the edge or fit alternative detection and re-test the door.
Can you force-test our doors in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire?
Yes. We measure closing forces with a calibrated tester at the points set out in BS EN 12453, record the results and recommend any adjustments or devices needed. Force testing can be part of a service visit.
