Quick answer
Is a powered door at your Derbyshire site missing safety devices, or are they damaged or bypassed? We bring older doors up to date with monitored safety edges, photocells, light curtains and fall protection.

What to specify
- Records. Written results and updated risk assessment for your files.
- Light curtains. Many beams from floor to head detect people and vehicles anywhere in the opening.
- Photocells. Beams across the opening that stop the door closing while broken.
- Safety edges. Pressure-sensitive or optical edges that stop and reverse the door on contact.
- Force testing. We measure how hard the door closes and record the results at each test point.
Examples of work we can quote for
- Fitting spring-break and cable-break devices to older sectional doors installed without any fall protection.
- Adding warning beacons and photocells to a door that is being converted to automatic closing on a timer.
- Upgrading an old relay control panel so monitored safety edges and photocells can be connected to it.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in Derbyshire?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Planning the work around your site
Downtime matters on a working site, so the programme is set around your shifts. For a single door the opening is usually needed for a day; multi-door jobs are done one bay at a time so deliveries keep moving.

Door safety upgrades in Derbyshire: your questions
Can you force-test our doors in Derbyshire?
Yes. We measure closing forces with a calibrated tester at the points set out in BS EN 12453, record the results and recommend any adjustments or devices needed. Force testing can be part of a service visit.
Do our powered doors in Derbyshire need safety upgrades?
It depends on how they are controlled and used. Doors that close automatically or on a single press typically need edges and photocells or light curtains. A survey and force test shows whether your doors meet current expectations.
How long does a safety upgrade take in Derbyshire?
Most upgrades take a few hours per door, including re-testing. If a new control panel is needed, it may take longer. We plan work to keep doors out of use for as short a time as possible.
