Options for door safety upgrades in Middlesbrough
- Warning devices. Lights and sounders make sure people know when a door is about to move.
- Force testing. We measure how hard the door closes and record the results at each test point.
- Records. Written results and updated risk assessment for your files.
- Photocells. If something breaks the beam, the door will not close.
- Panel upgrades. Control panels with monitored safety inputs where older ones fall short.
What this work can involve
- Carrying out safety upgrades on the powered doors of a newly leased unit before a tenant moves in.
- Adding anti-fall devices to heavy roller shutters identified in a workplace risk assessment review.
- Upgrading an old relay control panel so monitored safety edges and photocells can be connected to it.
Safety law for industrial doors in England
Industrial doors in Middlesbrough are covered by the same rules as the rest of Great Britain. On handover you should receive user instructions and, for a powered door, the conformity paperwork, because the installer is treated as the manufacturer when they assemble or motorise it. Afterwards, keeping the door in efficient working order is the occupier's job under the Workplace Regulations 1992 and PUWER 1998, which in practice means regular servicing and a written log.
Access, phasing and timing
Before work starts we send a method statement and risk assessment, confirm who on site will be our contact and agree where materials and access equipment will go. On shared industrial estates that can mean booking yard space with the landlord.
Guide prices
| Item | Guide price (ex VAT) |
|---|---|
| Safety upgrade (edges, photocells, light curtain) | £445 – £1,795 per door |

Guide prices for supply and installation unless stated, excluding VAT, which is added at the current rate where it applies. Your fixed price is confirmed in writing after a survey, before any work starts.
Frequently asked questions
Our door at our Middlesbrough site has a bypassed safety edge. What should we do?
Stop using the door under power until the safety device is working, or use it on hold-to-run only if the risk assessment allows. We can replace the edge or fit alternative detection and re-test the door.
How long does a safety upgrade take in Middlesbrough?
Most upgrades take a few hours per door, including re-testing. If a new control panel is needed, it may take longer. We plan work to keep doors out of use for as short a time as possible.
Will a safety upgrade at our Middlesbrough premises include paperwork?
Yes. We record the devices fitted, the force test results and any changes to the control panel, and update the door's risk assessment, giving you written evidence that the door was checked and upgraded.
