What we fit in the West Midlands
- Fall protection. If a spring, cable or drive fails, the door is caught before it falls.
- Safety edges. Pressure-sensitive or optical edges that stop and reverse the door on contact.
- Warning devices. Lights and sounders make sure people know when a door is about to move.
- Force testing. Closing forces measured against BS EN 12453 limits and recorded.
- Photocells. Beams across the opening that stop the door closing while broken.
Jobs we can carry out
- Fitting a full-height light curtain to an automatic sectional door on a busy pedestrian route.
- Fitting spring-break and cable-break devices to older sectional doors installed without any fall protection.
- Force-testing a run of loading bay doors and adjusting closing speeds where results exceed the limits.
Who is responsible for door safety at a site in the West Midlands?
In England, two sets of duties meet at a powered door. The installer who supplies or motorises it must hand over a door that meets the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008, tested against BS EN 12453 and documented. The business in control of the premises must then maintain it: regulation 5 of the Workplace Regulations 1992 covers maintenance, and regulation 18 requires upward-opening doors to have a device that stops them falling back and powered doors to have features that prevent trapping.
Planning the work around your site
Most installations in the West Midlands can be phased so part of the site keeps working. We agree access routes, exclusion zones and any temporary security with you before the team arrives, and can work early mornings, evenings or weekends where the business needs it.

Door safety upgrades in the West Midlands: your questions
Can you force-test our doors in the West Midlands?
Yes. We measure closing forces with a calibrated tester at the points set out in BS EN 12453, record the results and recommend any adjustments or devices needed. Force testing can be part of a service visit.
Our door at our the West Midlands site has a bypassed safety edge. What should we do?
Stop using the door under power until the safety device is working, or use it on hold-to-run only if the risk assessment allows. We can replace the edge or fit alternative detection and re-test the door.
