What our engineers check and fix
- Alarm interface. We coordinate with your fire alarm engineer so the release signal and the shutter are proven together.
- Most makes. We service most fire shutter brands, subject to parts availability.
- Closure test. A full drop test on every visit, with closing speed checked against the manufacturer's range.
- Remedials. Faults explained on the day and quoted before any chargeable repair.
- Drive and back-up. Motor, brake, limits and any battery back-up tested.
Typical scopes of work
- Drop-testing compartment fire shutters every six months, coordinated with the fire alarm contractor's scheduled test visit.
- Replacing a failed battery back-up unit so a fire shutter closes under control when mains power is lost.
- Realigning and clearing fire shutter guides damaged by pallet trucks so nothing prevents a full, square closure.
Fire safety duties for shutters in Northumberland
In England, fire shutters are part of the fire precautions the responsible person must keep maintained under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005: in efficient working order and in good repair. Testing at suitable intervals and keeping the results is expected good practice and supports your fire risk assessment. Enforcement in Northumberland is by the local fire and rescue authority.
Access, phasing and timing
Before work starts we send a method statement and risk assessment, confirm who on site will be our contact and agree where materials and access equipment will go. On shared industrial estates that can mean booking yard space with the landlord.
